Temporary Licensed Journeyman Electrician - District Operations Center

 

This is an 8 hour/day, temporary position under the Classified Bargaining Agreement. The start date is as soon as possible through June 30, 2024. 

 

DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager and/or Maintenance Supervisor; performs skilled work as a journeyman craftsman in one or more trades in the maintenance, construction, and repair of district buildings; performs related work as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This position differs from Journeyman Craft Specialist-Electrician, because less supervision is required and journeyman skills are essential in trades such as electrical, with the completion of a recognized apprenticeship training program. Supervision of helpers may be a regular responsibility.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on electrical systems.
  • Orders required material for assigned jobs.
  • Replaces or adds new equipment for proper or improved electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of the safety procedures appropriate to electrical repair work required.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local electrical, fire, and building codes.
  • Knowledge of standard electrical and mechanical equipment including, but not limited to three-phase, ground fault, 120/208, 277/480 volt systems, fan motors and controls, compressors, low voltage controls, remote controls, boiler controls, fire alarm shut-down controls, emergency generators, automatic switch gear, and automated electrical control systems.

Ability to:

  • Performs wiring in commercial buildings, running exposed conduit, and balancing of electrical panels and systems.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and repair all types of electrical systems.
  • Estimate material and labor requirements, interpret and work from plans, prints, specifications, and established maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to proficiently use appropriate computer applications for your assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Work cooperatively with others within established maintenance procedures.
  • Follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Keep accurate records and originate written reports when required.
  • Work within established safety procedures.
  • Must routinely lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to work at heights over 20 feet.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

License:

  • Must possess a current Oregon operator’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Must possess a current Oregon Journeyman Electrician license.

Experience:

  • Minimum six years’ experience in the field of electrical construction and/or maintenance.  Work experience must evidence ability to perform tasks assigned.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent as required by Oregon Administrative Rules, Oregon Department of Education.
